I was born on July 6, 1958 in Jacksonville, FL, where I lived until I was 23 and moved to Macon GA, to attend college. I have been married to my beautiful wife Patsy for 26 years. We have two children, Mei Mei (9), and Kessie (7), our cat Peeper, and rabbit Selena and her bunnies. During the day I work as a School Psychologist where I assess and design interventions for adolescents who are having difficulties in school due to mental health and/or learning problems. Balancing my role of husband, father, and psychologist with being a blues performer can be very busy at times, and sometimes a little tricky.

During my career I have performed with local bands in Jacksonville and Gainesville, Florida. After moving to Tampa in 1990, I took a brief hiatus from playing live while I attended graduate school at the University of South Florida.

In 1996 I returned to the music scene playing with various artists in the Tampa area, and in 1997 helped form the Backwater Blues Band.

The highlights of my career with the Backwater Blues Band include:

  • Meeting and playing with Walter "Wolfman" Washington in New Orleans

  • Opening for Dr. John

  • Playing at the House of Blues in Orlando

  • Playing at MusicFest at Busch Gardens-Tampa.

  • Meeting Marcia Ball, whose boogie style of piano played a major role in the development of my own style.

  • Visiting Chicago and meeting so many great blues musicians including watching Buddy Guy sit in with Scott Holt at Legends.

  • Meeting Shirley Johnson at the Blue Chicago.

  • Attending the Battle of B3 Nawlin's Style show at the Paladium and after the show getting to talk with Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Keyboardist Joe Krown.

Classical Rock artists Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman were early influences on my piano and organ playing, and are probably why I play standing up surrounded by a cockpit of keyboards and occasionally don a blue cape.

Current, and more blues oriented, influences are keyboardists Jimmy Pugh (Robert Cray Band) and Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughn).
